Girls' Education Empowerment Charity

Girls have so much to offer to the world - we believe in the power that they hold, and know that they will mold future generations to come. At Sponsor a Gambian Girl, we are here to give them the support they need in order to shape them into leaders of the future.

Meet the Founders and Campaigners for Girls' Education

Lisa and Annetta met at work in the United Kingdom, they were paired up for a 'coffee date' as part of their work's employee engagement initiative. They both realised that they shared the same passion to make a small change in the world. The dream to champion the cause for girls' education in The Gambia was born in November 2018.

In 2018 Annetta visited Gambia and witnessed a mother forcing her child to marry an old man due to financial hardship and could not continue to support her child's education. As she was a single mother, it was difficult for her to look after her two children, making less than €2 each day. She decided that in order to break the cycle of early child marriage something needs to done. Annetta built The SaGG Foundation. Finding financial support through sponsors to support girls in education and give them a brighter future and freedom.

Annetta

Annetta is a girls’ rights advocate, who is passionate about quality education as the key to a more equal world. Born, raised and educated in The Gambia, she went on to study at the University of Bedfordshire.

Annetta is very passionate about women's empowerment in local communities and human rights, particularly in areas that receive little assistance, and as a result, suffer socio-economic disparities. She is motivated to empower girls through education and this has led to the passion to create financial inclusion and economic opportunity through quality education as a way to bring nations out of poverty.

Prior to starting Sponsor a Gambian Girl, Annetta had been an avid campaigner for positive change in her community and bringing girls education to new audiences. When not working as a digital marketing manager, she is busy creating fresh opportunities for people around the world to advocate for girls’ education funding and policymaking.

Lisa

Girls education campaigner
Lisa is a keen advocate for a just and fairer world; she holds the unwavering belief that everyone should have the same opportunities regardless of their geographical location or socio-economic background. Every child in Germany receives quality education without gender biases or wealth assessment and this motivated her to champion the cause for the education of girls in The Gambia.

Born and raised in Germany, Lisa can see how education has been the backbone for development and advancement of every facet of German society, especially the education of girls and the empowerment of women. With this understanding, Lisa did not hesitate to join the campaign to support the cause to empower girls in The Gambia through education by first sponsoring a girl and then becoming a Champion. When not working as a Human Resources Specialist, she is busy travelling to third world countries, in the pursuit of positive change in the lives of people.
