Importance of Girl Child Education

WHY GIRLS' EDUCATION

By sponsoring a girl's education, you are not just helping the child, you are helping her family and by extension, educating a girl creates a ripple effect that affects more than just one life. An educated girl is less likely to get pregnant in her teens.

A sponsored girl has a higher chance of benefiting from the education. Low funds mean many families are unable to afford school fees and a lot of girls are forced to drop out of school early. Therefore, a sponsored child has the chance to complete her education. Education is vital to fighting poverty and is a sustainable way to build a better future. Better education leads to more opportunities and the chance to escape poverty.

Benefits of Educating girls

Formal education enables a girl to develop skills that can help her earn a living and support herself in the future. This will improve her well-being and reduce the occurrence of child marriage. The ripple effect includes the advantage that educated women are less likely to die in childbirth. She also increases her chance of entering the workforce as education narrows the pay gap.

Consequently, by sponsoring a girl's education, it reduces child mortality. A girl that is educated to secondary school level reduces child death by half, leading to about 3 million lives being saved annually. Furthermore, educated mothers improve child nutrition. If all women had a secondary school education, 12 million children will be saved from malnutrition and stunted growth. A girl's education provides knowledge, improves self-confidence, gives them power over their own lives and this benefits them in the long run. By sponsoring a girl's education, it is more than just giving her access to knowledge; the benefits extend to her children, her community and her country.
